Our Story

How it Started

Born and raised in North Wilmington, Meg and Dan Hurst have turned a middle-school friendship into a growing business that fuels Delaware’s sweet tooth. After they married in 2013, they decided to add something even sweeter. They created Cajun-Sno, serving New Orleans style snoballs, never imagining it would be the start of something much bigger. What began as 1 small trailer quickly became the foundation of what would later grow into Sugar Empire. In 2020, they rescued neighborhood favorite: Sweet Lucy’s Ice Cream & Treats with a dream of keeping local scoops and memories alive that North Wilmington had grown to cherish. A love for warm, fresh treats led them to DonutNV, opening their first mini donut and lemonade trailer in 2022 and expanding to a 5-trailer fleet by 2026. Also in 2026, Sweet Lucy’s Ice Cream and Treats transformed into Sweet Lucy’s Ice Cream and Bakery.

Now, with 5 kids in tow, Meg and Dan – alongside their growing Sugar Empire team – attend school events, business functions, and private celebrations with their sweet catering options. Additionally, through fundraising and give-back initiatives, community remains their #1 focus.

Today, the Sugar Empire suite of sweets – Cajun-Sno, DonutNV of Delaware, and Sweet Lucy’s – exists for one purpose: Your Next Sugar Rush.
